Welcome to Bags for the Ocean!
Bags for the Ocean has a simple mission: take used tee shirts and make them into reusable bags. What started as one high school student in San Francisco has spread around the country and the world, with over 50 chapters on campuses from Canada to Costa Rica getting the reusable bag message out to the world.
Some of our chapters sell their bags to raise funds for ocean cleanups and marine conservation. Some give them away in an effort to get people on their campus thinking about eliminating single-use plastics. Reusable bags keep plastic bags out of our oceans, which is good for everyone, from your campus roommate to a sea turtle on the other side of the world.

- Find a chapter at your school and join their project!
- ...Or start your own chapter if your school doesn't have one.
- ... Or start making bags in your own group and call it whatever you want. The fewer plastic bags, the better!
